The UAN advances in ecosystems of international cooperation

The work team of the Autonomous University of Nayarit that collaborates in the IBERO4JOBS project Building ties with the business sector, co-financed by the European Union, continues to carry out immersion activities at the University of Vigo, Ourense campus and Vigo Campus in Pontevedra, Spain.

The activities that the work team is involved in are: the design of a prototype of the University-Business Model that is adapted to Latin American contexts based on the good practices of European countries; meetings with the Business Confederation of Ourense, also with university management and civil servants; as well as business visits to research and technology transfer centres. In addition, an agreement is being promoted with the University of Vigo, Spain, which will allow for the creation of more collaboration, mobility and research options.

The UAN participates in the IBERO4JOBS project of ERASMUS+

Tepic.- With funding from the European Union, a team from the Autonomous University of Nayarit (UAN) participated as an ally in the IBERO4JOBS project; with the objective of discussing the models of University-Business linkage, as well as the linkage with governing boards and society. The immersion activities started in Vigo, Spain, and were received by the mayor of the city of Ourense and the rector of the University of Vigo.

This team was coordinated by the Directorate of Strategic Linkage for University Transfer, of the Secretariat of Extension and Linkage, with the participation of the Academic Units of Tourism and Gastronomy, and of Economy.

It is worth noting that other institutions from Latin America and Europe are participating in the ERASMUS+ IBERO4JOBS project.

The European Ibero4Jobs project builds bridges between the academic and business spheres to promote entrepreneurship.

About fifty people participate this week at the University of Vigo in the first project meeting in Europe Ibero4Jobs. The initiative brings together specialists from universities and organizations in Colombia, Mexico, Portugal and Spain with the objective of improving the integration processes between the academic and business spheres, creating bridges between them that promote the employability of students.

Launched in May 2023, the project has participation from the European side of the University of Vigo, the Ronsel Foundation and the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (Portugal). In the Ibero-American part of Colombia there are the University of Caldas, the Autonomous University of Manizales, the Chamber of Commerce of Manizales for Caldas and the Luker Foundation; e from Mexico to the Autonomous University of Nayarit to the Technological University of Nayarit. It is financed with around 775,000 euros under the Erasmus+ program of the European Union and coordinated by the University of Caldas. The purpose of the initiative is “to improve the employability of the students of the partner universities, strengthen the current capacities of the participating institutions and transfer knowledge that allows them to develop their own connection strategies with the business sector.”

To achieve this objective, Ibero4Jobs is committed to improving the integration processes between academia and the business and production sector through the transfer of methodologies and best practices from European universities to Latin American higher education institutions. Thus, it starts from the premise that “European universities have successful models in theoretical and practical training that facilitate the transition from learning to employment and respond to the skills and needs demanded by the labor market, favoring the employability of youth.” In this context, the participating partners consider that “working together is essential so that the actions, efforts and capacities of both parties impact the sustainable development of the regions and reduce the gaps in performance of new people.”

Knowing good practices

The first Study and Immersion Week of the project started this Monday and Tuesday at the Ourense campus, at the Faculty of Education and Social Work, and will continue to the next weekend at the Vigo campus. Showing her satisfaction for completing this activity, the coordinator of Ibero4Jobs at the University of Vigo, a professor at the aforementioned faculty Maribel Doval, explains that the objectives of this meeting are to deepen the knowledge of good practices on the subject of the project through “active dialogue and work cooperative and participatory between European and Latin American partners.” Likewise, programming focuses on perfecting the skills of Ibero-American teachers in relation to these practices, “equipping them to develop and prototype solutions for their respective universities and organizations, influenced by European paradigms in the field.”

The work sessions around projects are complemented this week by holding different workshops with entities, such as Feuga, and visits of interest, such as the Business Confederation and the Deputation of Ourense or the Nautilus observatory, near Vigo. Members also have the opportunity to learn first-hand about the faculties, schools and research work of UVigo and different companies. The participating delegations of Ibero4Jobs will continue to work this week at the headquarters of another European partner of this initiative, the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (Portugal).

International meeting to enhance the employability of students at the University of Caldas

Within the framework of the development of work package No. 3 of the IBERO4JOBS project, from March 30 to April 12, the rector of the University of Caldas, Fabio Hernando Arias Orozco, the head of the Internationalization Office, Margarita María López, the dean of the Faculty of Engineering, María Helena Mejía, and four professors and program directors of the same faculty, will travel to a meeting with European universities to exchange successful experiences and methodologies that will strengthen the relationship of students with the business community, even before finishing their studies.

The University of Vigo in Spain and the Polytechnic Institute of Porto in Portugal will be the institutions that will host this team to implement joint work to improve the employability opportunities of students, as well as to discuss and share successful methodologies that can be replicated at the University of Caldas.

“The purpose of the meeting is to improve the employability of our students and ensure that when they finish their studies they already have work experience and can be linked to the business sector. This is a win-win for the University, for companies and above all for students,” says María Helena Mejía, dean of the Faculty of Engineering.

European universities have successful models of theoretical and practical training that facilitate the transition from learning to employment and respond to the skills and needs demanded by the labour market.

Dean Mejía adds that the plan is to carry out a pilot test for 2024-2 with the Food Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety Technology and Logistics Technology programs, in which the knowledge acquired at the meeting can be applied and the shared methodologies, experiences and good practices can be transferred.

This meeting is part of the IBERO4JOBS project, an initiative that seeks to take advantage of the expertise and knowledge of European universities so that they can transfer their methodologies for articulation with the business sector to partner universities in order to improve employability and contribute to the sustainable growth of the region.

Luker Foundation

Within the framework of the Ibero4Jobs project, we are successfully advancing in the city of Manizales, connecting with companies, universities and students. During this week, we received a pleasant visit from María Isabel Doval and Maruxa Alvarez Jiménez from the University of Vigo, Spain, as part of the Erasmus project. Together, we are working closely with local businesses. 🌟🤝
In our articulation mission, we had the opportunity to visit Comercializadora Mercaldas, Maviltex SA and Adylog, to better understand their perspectives on the relationship between the business sector and academia. Likewise, we met with university professors and students.
